ARTIST STATEMENT

​

In this work, I wanted to talk about "the Sixth Mass Extinction.” It is entirely different from previous mass extinction events caused by external factors. This one is being made by a single species, 'human', therefore we also call it Holocene Extinction. 

Holocene extinction refers to the sixth mass extinction in which at least 75% of Earth's species may disappear due to humans. Humans are exterminating species at unprecedented speeds and destroying the ecosystem’s diversity.

We ignore the decline of other species at our peril because they are the barometer that reveals our exploitation of the world. For a sustainable future, we must think about the disappearing lives that we have caused. This work, VANISHING illustrate a fantasy-like scene. The fossilised wings and the mysterious skeleton that moves along the landscape look surreal. However, these fragmentary beings suggest the creatures that once inhabited Earth, but now no longer exist. This work is a tribute to the lives that disappear for the sake of mankind.
