Between, 2009, MFA Thesis Show, New Wight Gallery, Broad Art Center
"Between" is Yiyun Kang's thesis project that was shown in the New Wight Gallery in Broad Art Center, Los Angeles, Caliœfornia in May, 2009.
This is another variation of “between” series.
As a thesis project for UCLA Design | Media Arts MFA degree, Yiyun created an immersive
multi-channel video installation.
This elaborately site-incorporated video installation consisted of 5 customized screens
essentially necessitates minute adjustment.
Thus not only videos but also the relation among the site, video, screens, and audiences' movement
within this space becomes the crucial aspect of this body of work.
The audiences are perceptually confused by this installation whether what they are seeing is really happening or not.
However, these uncanny images of human body's imprints and contours are
mere videos projected carefully onto each minimal screen.
In this way, this video installation situates itself in the realm of audiences’ entire sensory perception.
Thus this project suspends both artwork and spectator in a zone somewhere between the literal
and the virtual.
